Career fair reveals top job availability in Africa
Houston residents seeking jobs in major African cities will have a chance to profile their prowess come July 27th.
A fair coming to Houston July 27, 2007 may be a much needed prescription for the brain drain issue in the Motherland. CareerNation is bringing its nationwide expo to the Reliant Center where major companies in Africa represented in the United States will unite with residents who wish to pursue careers in various disciplines in the continent. In its previous career expo, more than 30 candidates were hired on the spot during in a well-attended event that featured about 20,000 African students, professionals, executives, and 50 employers.
A lot has been discussed and written about the effects of brain drain in Africa, but pragmatically, very little has been done to remedy its effects. It is believed to be one of the biggest issues to the developing nations. According to studies, brain drain has cost the African continent over $4 billion in the employment of 150,000 expatriate professionals annually. Nigeria, Kenya and Ethiopia are believed to be the most affected. Brain Drain or human capital flight is an emigration of trained and talented individuals to other nations or jurisdictions, due to conflicts, lack of opportunity, or health hazards where they are living, But CareerNation, a global staffing company established in 2000 as a leading recruiter of well-educated, well-trained, and well-hidden talent for vacancies in the United States and the African continent may have taken up the task to equipping the labor-starved continent with exactly the right tools for corporate survival.
Houston, ranked the world's energy city, is just the right place for the this event. Almost all of the major companies in the United States - from energy to information technology to banking are represented here with most of them operating overseas branches in most major African cities. It is estimated that more than 1500 professionals and 50 corporate and public sector employers from the African continent and the United States will convene to network, making the event a success.
During this Expo, there will be conferences highlighting African corporate leaders, company information sessions, and presentations, a series of panel sessions, and an award banquet where corporate dignitaries will address the participants. The second day of the Career Nation Africa Career Expo will be consist of an international job fair and pre-scheduled job interviews. Candidates looking for jobs in Africa and the US will be able to schedule interviews for that day.
Since its inception in 2000, CareerNation has relentlessly provided many basic services to fulfill its objectives. According to the President and CEO, Victor Madubuko, "Our unique recruitment model is focused on the identification and placement of qualified, difficult to find, specialized management and staff-level candidates. Our performance guarantees are unprecedented. Our practice is global in scope. We are superb at what we do."
Recruiting local and expatriate staff has been a great success. The group has been able to identify and present the best and the brightest. Madubuko said, "our approach to recruitment is strategic, extraordinarily cost-effective, and professional. We guarantee that each candidate, having been provided full knowledge of the position's responsibilities, reporting relationship, and geographic location, will be seriously interested in pursuing your opportunity."
CareerNation also conducts contingency searches on an exclusive or non-exclusive basis. It refers qualified candidates to the employer, who conducts the final interviews and selects the right candidate.
The hosting of an Annual CareerNation Expo has also been consistent. The group hosts a well-planned face-to-face assessment with pre-screened job candidates. Client employers come to CareerNation Expo to interview 10-20 qualified candidates per vacancy. Since its inception in 2000, CareerNation has successfully filled key vacancies and hosted major hiring conferences.
Furthermore the group capitalizes on the cyber revolution by fulfilling its mission through the Internet. It operates CareerNation.com, classified as the leading website for advertising job vacancies in Africa. Employers can post vacancies, search thousands of resumes, and advertise on the CareerNation website.
Preparing for all of this is hard but gratifying work for Victor Madubuko. His journey from Onitsha has been long and winding. But it has brought him an International Law Degree from the Russian People's University, Moscow, and Master of Science in Human Resource Management from the New School University in New York City. He is fluent in Russian and African Languages including Yoruba, Ibo and Hausa. He is also a certified Professional Human Resources (PHR) Executive with entrepreneurial and business development experience over a wide range of organizations including Toxbro Holdings Moscow, Consolidated Edison, NY, Urban Institute DC, and N-Glory Development Inc, Abuja Nigeria. Victor Madubuko and CareerNation.com have come a long way indeed. If CareerNation.com fulfills its mission, we'll soon find him safely back in Africa running a global online human resources company right from Onitsha, where it all started.
